Kippot

A kippah (plural kippot); sometimes called a yarmulka or a kepel is a thin, slightly-rounded skullcap traditionally worn by observant Jewish men.

 

Megilat Ester

The story of Ester read at the festival of Purim.

 

Religions Of The World DVD Box Set

Sir Ben Kingsley narrates this programme that looks at both the similarities and differences between the world's major religions.

 

Religious Symbol (as shown left)

The Shield of David or Magen David in Hebrew.

 

Seder Plate

Used during Passover in the Seder service. The foods illustrated on this plate are symbolic of the Exodus.

 

Shabbat and Festival Candlesticks

Shofar (as shown below)

A ram's horn trumpet. Used during the festival of Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year).

 

Tallit

Also called tallis (Yiddish), is a prayer shawl that is worn during the morning Jewish services (the Shacharit prayers) in Judaism, during the Torah service, and on Yom Kippur and other holidays. The Torah mentions 613 commandments.  The shawl has 613 tassels - one for each law.

 

Tefflin

Traditionally worn by observant Jewish men and (boys from the age of thirteen - Bar Mitzvah) to pray. They put one on their arm and one on their head.
